Terry Eagleton

Terence Francis Eagleton (Salford, 22. 2. 1943. – ), britanski književni kritičar i teoretičar, filozof, pisac i javni intelektualac. Rođen je u radničkoj katoličkoj porodici irskog porijekla, izvorno iz Galwayja. Studirao je na koledžima Trinity i Jesus Univerziteta u Cambridgeu gdje mu je jedan od profesora bio i Raymond Williams. Akademsku karijeru je započeo kao predavač na Univerzitetu u Oxfordu odnosno koledžima Wadham (1969–1989), Linacre (1989–1993) i St Catherine's. Godine 2001. prebacio se na Univerzitet u Manchesteru gdje je radio sedam godina, a kasnije je predavao i na Univerzitetu u Lancasteru, Nacionalnom irskom univerzitetu, te Univerzitetu Notre Dame. Kao vandredni predavač radio je i na Cornellu, Dukeu, Iowi, Melbourneu, dublinskom Trinityju i Yaleu. Autor je više od 40 knjiga među kojima su najpoznatije Književna teorija: Uvod (engl. Literary Theory: An Introduction, 1983), Ideologija estetike (engl. The Ideology of the Aesthetic, 1990) i Iluzije postmodernizma (engl. The Illusions of Postmodernism, 1996). Eagleton je socijalist i marksist, u više navrata branio je Slavoja Žižeka i pomogao da se njegov rad popularizira u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu.
