Historičar
Historičar ili istoričar, odn. povjesničar (ijek.) ili povesničar (ek.), osoba koja se zanima za kontuirano, sistematsko izlaganje i istraživanje prošlih događaja koji se tiču ljudske rase; odnosno proučavanje svih događaja u prošlom vremenu.
Postoje razne grane historije, ali se općenito smatra da su prvi historičari u suvremenom smislu riječi bili dva drevna Grka - Herodot i Tukidid. Izvjesno je da su i ranije postojala historijska djela, ali ona nisu bila kontunirana ni sistematska. Historičari se najčešće ne dijele na 'amatere' i profesionalce, s obzirom da svatko tko sastavi historijsko djelo može biti smatran historičarem bez obzira na svoje profesionalne kvalifikacije. To se odražava u relativno kasnom fenomenu profesionalnih historičara koji se javljaju sredinom i krajem 19. vijeka. Prije tog perioda, većina historičara se nije bavila historijom kao svojim glavnim zanimanjem, a historija se nije predavala kao predmet niti se smatrala zvanjem.
