Irena Lekapene

Irena Lekapene (grčki Ειρήνη Λακαπηνή, bugarski Ирина Лакапина) bila je grčka plemkinja i bugarska carica, rođena kao Marija (Μαρία). Roditelji su joj bili grčki plemić Kristofor Lakapen^[1] i njegova supruga, Augusta Sofija^[2]. Preko oca, Irena je bila nećakinja patrijarha Teofilakta Carigradskog.

Irenin djed, bizantski car Roman I Lakapin, udao je Irenu 8. studenog 927. za cara Petra I od Bugarske. Petar i Irena dobili su trojicu sinova:
