Dezoksipirimidinski kinazni kompleks indukovan virusom Herpes simplex katalizuje ovu reakciju, kao i reacije enzima EC 2.7.1.21 (timidin kinaza), EC 2.7.1.118 (ADP---timidin kinaza) i EC 2.7.4.9 (dTMP kinaza).
