Iako je bio rastavljen od svoje posljednje supruge, s njom je do smrti ostao u braku. Pred sam kraj života je dovršio [[autobiografija|autobiografiju]] pod nazivom ''[[My Wicked Wicked Ways]]''. Tada je upoznao i 15-godišnju [[Beverly Aadland]] koja mu je postala životna partnerica i s kojom je surađivao na svom posljednjem projektu - dokumentarnom filmu ''[[Cuban Rebel Girls]]'', posvećenom ženama koje su se u [[kubanska revolucija|kubanskoj revoluciji]] borili na strani [[Fidel Castro|Fidela Castra]]. Nedugo potom je na jednoj zabavi umro u ''Vancouver''u od [[srčani udar|srčanog udara]].
