== Značaj hormona kao bioregulatora ==
Hormoni regulišu i održavaju celokupan metabolizam, sastav krvi i drugih telesnih tečnosti, normalno funkcionisanje organa, vrše kontrolu i obezbjeđuju rast i razvoj različitih tkiva, organa i celokupnog organizma. Skoro da nema procesa koji nije neposredno ili posredno pod uticajem jednog ili više hormona. Svaki hormon ima specifične uticaje na metabolizam i funkciju posebnih organa. Polni hormoni utiču na razvoj primarnih i sekundarnih polnih karakteristika, kortizol utiče na metabolizam ugljenih hidrata, aldosteron na sadrzaj elektrolita itd. Usled nedostatka, smanjenje sinteze ili povećanog stvaranja hormona mogu nastati promene u hemijskim reakcijama koje remete metabolizam i tako izazivaju razne poremećaje i bolesti.
