Jahve
Jahve (heb. יהוה) bio je nacionalni bog Kraljevstva Izrael i Juda.[2] Tačno porijeklo naziva je sporno, iako seže iz mlađeg gvozdenog doba, pa čak i kasnog bronzanog:[3] naziv se u početku koristio kao epitet boga Ela, vrhovnog božanstva kananske religije tokom bronzanog doba,[4] ali najranije vjerodostojno pominjanje je u egipatskim tekstovima koji ga smještaju među nomade iz južne Transjordanije.[5]
U najstarijim biblijskim tekstovima Jahve je tipični drevni bliskoistočni „božiji ratnik“ koji vodi nebesku vojsku protiv neprijatelja Izraela;[6] kasnije je postao glavno bog Kraljevstva Izrael i Judeja,[7] a kraljevski sud i hram promovišu Jahvea kao boga cijelog kosmosa, koji posjeduje sve pozitivne osobine prethodno pripisivane drugim bogovima i božanstvima.[8][9] Pred kraj Vavilonskog ropstva (6. vijek p. n. e.), samo postojanje drugih bogova je negirano, a Jahve je proglašen tvorcem kosmosa i istinskim bogom cijelog svijeta.[9]
