Opis

A Frenchmen weeps as historic flags of French regiments are paraded down the streets of Marseille in February 1941, to be loaded on ships and sent to Algeria for safekeeping. They had been removed from Paris prior to the Germans arriving, and had been given to forces under General Maxime Weygand. After the war, the pictured man was identified as M. Jerôme Barzetti.[1]

The image is taken from a film clip, a portion of which was later used in Frank Capra's 1943 film Divide and Conquer. This image has been mistakenly attributed as being in Paris or Toulon, and the NARA caption is incorrect (presumably mislabeled by the originating government department). This version is reversed from most publications.
